19 October 2023
Halfords closed their doors for the final time last week at Five Valleys in Stroud, making way for a brand-new Tesco Express convenience store.
Tesco have committed to the town for 15 years taking the 5,249 sq ft unit on Merrywalks Road. Their fit-out works will begin on 11 November, ready for the store opening early next year.
Tesco are investing £1m in to the new unit creating 20 new jobs for the area and playing a key role in supporting the local community.
Halfords employed a team of just nine people, six of those have been deployed to the Halfords branch in Gloucester.
The new store will be accessed from Merrywalks Road and offer free parking for up to 16 cars located right outside the store.
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “We are delighted to be working with Tesco to bring a convenient food offer to our local community, along with creating a number of new jobs for the area.”
Five Valleys shopping centre was purchased by Dransfield Properties in 2018 and has so far seen close to £30m of investment improving the main shopping centre malls, creating a high-quality indoor food market and consolidating new medical facilities. The regeneration project has helped safeguard and create just over 400 jobs.
The shopping centre is open seven days a week as well as hosting a late-night food market on a Friday with live music. The centre is also proud to provide several free community events throughout the year to complement its family leisure offer at VUE and Stroud Bowl.
