PenFM marks a decade at town centre location

The team at local radio station PenFM have renewed their lease at the town’s Penistone 1 development – where they have been part of the local business line up for the last ten years.

The Ofcom Licenced community radio station moved to the Penistone 1 building in June 2015 not long after the development was completed, opening a brand-new studio alongside a host of other local businesses.

PenFM is a not-for-profit local radio station serving Penistone, Stocksbridge and the surrounding areas. The station broadcasts on 95.7 FM and 97.7 FM, also streaming online.

The station is run by a hardworking group of dedicated volunteers who keep the community entertained and informed with music, news and information about local events.

Broadcasting since June 2009 PenFM initially served the Penistone area but extended its transmission to the Stocksbridge area in 2023.

The station has now renewed its lease on the studio and offices at Penistone 1 for a further five years, with the owners Dransfield Properties.

Station Manager Martin Sugden said: “We are really proud to be part of the community in Stocksbridge and Penistone and love having our studio and offices here at Penistone 1. We are delighted to be further committing to our town centre location and continuing to deliver great radio from the heart of our community.

“We have a fantastic team of volunteers at PenFM and we’re really pleased to have the ongoing support of Dransfield Properties as our landlord and a key local partner for the station.”

Estates Surveyor at Dransfield Properties, Olly Jansen, said: “Penistone 1 is a great hub for local businesses to establish and grow and we are delighted that the team at PenFM will continue to be a part of that community of businesses and organisations.

“PenFM is a fantastic local radio station and we wish the team all the very best as they continue to go from strength to strength.”
