Site Update - Work well underway on new Gainsborough Hotel site
13 December 2017
The piling work on the site of Gainsborough’s new town centre hotel and restaurant has been completed and the main contractors PDR Construction are now preparing to start work on the building’s steel frame.
A special soil cutting ceremony was held on site at the end of November and since then the construction team has completed the piling on site and are currently laying the pile caps and pre- fabricating the steel frame.
The next stage of construction work will see the ground floor slab being poured early in the New Year ready for the steel frame to be erected in mid-January when the building will really start to take shape.
The project is on schedule to be completed by Christmas 2018 – it will bring a new 56-bedroom Travelodge Hotel and Ponti’s Italian Kitchen.
The development is being built on the former Sun Inn site - The disused buildings which have been an eyesore on the site for many years were demolished earlier in the summer and the site cleared.
Dransfield Properties and West Lindsey District Council are working in partnership to transform the Market Street, Church Street and North Street area of the town – the new hotel and restaurant are a key ingredient of the plans.
Work has also started on transforming the first of the retail units on Market Street to create a new independent quarter in Gainsborough.
Development surveyor at Dransfield Properties, David Hale, said: “It’s great to see work progressing so well on the new hotel and restaurant site and things will really start to take shape in January when the steel frame of the building will start to go up."
