Websters Family Butchers celebrates first birthday at Market Cross

Award-winning local business Websters Family Butchers is celebrating its first birthday at Market Cross Shopping Centre in Selby, marking a successful first year in the heart of the town centre.

Owner Carl Webster opened the shop in April 2025, bringing more than 30 years of butchery experience to his first independent venture. One year on, the business has gone from strength to strength, building a loyal customer base and becoming a firm favourite with local shoppers.

The shop, located near Holland & Barrett, Savers and Cooplands at Market Cross, is known for its award-winning sausages, high-quality cuts of meat and Carl’s much-loved, award-winning pork pies – made to a secret family recipe.

Carl, who trained at Thomas Danby College in Leeds and has worked across the region including at Riverside Butchers, set out to create a traditional, family-run butcher’s shop focused on quality and locally sourced produce.

The business remains a true family affair, with wife Caroline and children George, Lilly and Beth all playing a role in the shop. The team are celebrating the first birthday and Easter with a chance for one lucky customer to win a leg of lamb – head over to the Websters Family Butchers facebook page.

Carl Webster said: “It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we opened. The support from the Selby community has been incredible from day one, and we’re so grateful to all our customers who have helped make our first year such a success. We’re really proud of what we’ve built here at Market Cross and are excited for what the future holds.”
