Cocktail and food bar opens in time for Christmas in Selby

5 December 2022

A new bar and restaurant has opened on New Lane in Selby, joining the already fantastic food and drink offer in the Yorkshire market town.

Taking on the bar on New Lane, which is opposite Market Cross shopping centre, the new owners have completely refurbished and rebranded the premises bringing something stylish and affordable to the towns evening economy.

This new and exciting bar and restaurant, Henry’s, is named after William the Conqueror’s son King Henry I as historic records indicate that he was born in an old wooden church by the river at Church Hill in Selby.

Henry’s is co-owned by local Selby residents, Keith Tiplady and Garry Marshall, who are stepping into this new venture with this being their very first bar and restaurant.

Keith says: “Both Garry and I are proud Selebians and are really pleased with how the place is shaping up.  We have aimed to fill a gap in the market with a nice, local, independent and ethical venue with well-kept beer, exciting cocktails and fantastic food.   We are also enormously grateful to our friends and family who have helped us on this project.  Pretty sure Henry would have approved!”

Henry’s is co-owned by local Selby residents, Keith Tiplady and Garry Marshall, who have a huge passion for Selby and good quality food and drink. The pair have previously worked well in partnership on past projects and are now looking forward to stepping into this new venture together.

This new venue is perfect for ‘ladies that brunch’, date night or just a chilled evening with friends, and with the new re brand comes a new interior and fabulous new menus.

People can expect to find tasty burgers, pub favourites and delicious tapas including Chicken Satay, Prawn Tempura and Fried Chorizo. Alongside the menu is a variety of drinks including premium lagers, carefully selected wines and an extensive cocktail menu.

With themed nights running at the weekends in the future, diners can expect to sample specialist cuisine all cooked up by Henry’s fantastic chef who brings with her over 20 years in the industry.

Olly Jansen, Estates Surveyor for Dransfield Properties owners of the centre, said: “This is exciting times for Selby and I am sure this new look bar and restaurant with a fabulous food and drink menu is going to be very popular. We wish the new owners lots of luck.”

Henry’s prides itself in supporting other local businesses and with doing so, all their meat, fruit and vegetables are supplied by Selby Butchers and Coopers Grocers.

Henry’s will be open five days a week from midday until late. Diners can book a table online by or phoning 01757 322108.
