Gainsborough's Travelodge Opens for Business

Gainsborough's new Travelodge Hotel has officially opened today - bringing the first branded hotel to the town centre in a stunning new building developed by Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The Gainsborough Travelodge, was officially opened today by the Mayor of Gainsborough, Councillor Richard Craig, the Chairman of West Lindsey District Council, Councillor Pat Mewis, Gainsborough’s Town Crier Roger Merrett and Travelodge District Manager, Alison Barr. 

Situated opposite Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough Travelodge is a purpose built 56-room hotel with access to the Roseways car-park which has also undergone a major transformation as part of the project. The new development represents an investment of £4m and has created 16 new jobs within the community.

The striking Edwardian style building has been built on the former Sun Inn site in Gainsborough, transforming a run down site in the town centre. A water wall feature will be installed early in the New Year and the development has also created a stunning ground floor restaurant space.

Allison Barr, Travelodge District Manager said:  “Gainsborough Travelodge, the town’s first branded hotel will certainly help attract new business and leisure visitors to the area, which is great news for the local economy.  As research shows annually Travelodge customers will spend £2 million with local businesses during their stay.”    

Gainsborough Travelodge is being managed by Tarnya Roberts, who joined Travelodge in 2014 as a night time receptionist at Doncaster Lakeside Travelodge. Tarnya is one of thousands of Travelodge staff members who has successfully climbed the career ladder into management. 

Tarnya said:  “I never imagined I would be making history one day by managing Gainsborough’s first branded hotel. I am very proud to have built a fantastic team who are as passionate as me about delivering great customer service. Our new hotel has got off to a flying start and looking ahead, business on the books is encouraging. We are set for a busy festive season and we will the town’s ‘spare room’ provider this Christmas for visiting family and friends.”

Chairman of the Council, Cllr Pat Mewis, said: "Gainsborough Travelodge is a huge asset to the town and its development, with its Edwardian look, is in keeping with other key buildings in the location. 

"We have worked intensively with Travelodge and the development team from Dransfield Properties to bring this hotel to Gainsborough, which is part of our continued vision to create a town centre with the hotel as its anchor, encouraging more people to stay in our great town.  I am confident that further inward investment in partnership with West Lindsey District Council and the Town Council would deliver even more development into Gainsborough."

Gainsborough Travelodge has been styled in the company’s contemporary brand design and features the luxurious king size Travelodge Dreamer bed which sits within a mood lighting surround and has spacious bedside shelves for charging smart devices. All family rooms include two individual beds for the children.

All rooms also have  LED ceiling lighting, providing a warmer ambiance, Travelodge’s ‘comfort cooling’ to enable you to regulate the temperature of your room, a 32 inch Freeview TV, free in-room tea & coffee making facilities and access to Wifi, and can be booked at www.travelodge.co.uk.
