High praise for Market Cross as centre achieves “in bloom” silver gilt award

The team at Market Cross shopping centre are celebrating this week after their attractive floral displays achieved the sought after Yorkshire in Bloom Silver Gilt Award.

The centre was described by judges as a “hidden gem, nestled opposite Selby Abbey” they praised the hard work of the team who tend and water the floral display and keep Market Cross looking its best.

The results were announced at a special ceremony held at Tadcaster last week.

The judges who visited Market Cross also added: “The centre has managed to keep a local feel with a good mixture of national and independent shops in a vibrant space – all complimented by some good floral displays make this a must on any visit to Selby.”

Melissa Clement, from the Market Cross centre management team, said: “This is a great result for Market Cross and we are delighted to have achieved silver gilt from Yorkshire in Bloom.

“We take a great pride in how the centre looks and we will be looking at the suggestions the judges have made to help us get the Gold Award.”

Market Cross shopping centre is between Market Place and the Morrisons supermarket in Selby town centre.

The centre is anchored by Home Bargains - other retailers include Holland and Barrett, Costa Coffee Barco Lounge, The Works and Savers. There are also some great local, independent businesses including The Selby Butchers and Cooper's Greengrocer.
