JJB Sign Up for Phase Two

JJB FITNESS CENTRE FOR PHASE TWO OF SELBY'S THREE LAKES!
19 March 2004
Dransfield Properties, the company behind the Bawtry Road retail park, has submitted a new planning application to extend the development with a second phase – delivering a JJB Health and Fitness Centre, new KFC drive thru and 12,000 sq ft of further retail space to Selby.
The company announced last autumn that it intended to bring forward a second phase of the successful development which is now completed.
The JJB format has proved a winning formula on the company’s Mount Retail Development in Hull, which was opened in December 2003 by the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott. The centre in Hull provides fitness packages to appeal to all budgets.
The development has been so well received in East Hull that the Mount mixed retail and leisure scheme won the RIC’s Pro Yorkshire Award for regeneration in October.
The 22,500 JJB Health and Fitness Centre in Selby would include:
• A magnificent 20 metre pool
• A fully equipped gym
• Steam room and dance studios
• A first floor JJB store
An application for a phase two of the development has been lodged with Selby District Council.
The first phase of the retail park is now completed and most of the retailers have opened for business.
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, Mark Dransfield, said: “We are delighted with how the park is trading already, it is already proving to be an extremely popular shopping destination in Selby, retaining and attracting customers back to the area.
“The success of this first phase has created interest from other retailers, including JJB, who are very keen to invest in Selby – bringing forward a second phase of the retail park would bring more jobs and facilities to the area and would complete the comprehensive redevelopment of the area.
“The new JJB Health and Fitness centres are proving extremely popular in other towns and cities and we feel it would be a fantastic addition to the Three Lakes.”
If the new application is given the go-ahead by Selby District Council the Pro Am Karting centre on Bawtry Road would relocate to pave the way to delivering further exciting new facilities for Selby. Discussions are already underway with all businesses affected by the proposals.
The new JJB would be positioned to take full advantage of the views across the canal and it would share car parking and access with the rest of the retail park – via the new Bawtry Road roundabout.
In December last year a competition was held with Barwic Parade Community Primary School to find a name for the retail park and the children chose The Three Lakes.
The first phase of the Three Lakes Retail Park has already brought around 200 new jobs to the area.
