Long Awaited Plans to Regenerate Royton Town Centre Are Unveiled
20 April 2012
The plans for the £22.5 million transformation of Royton town centre went on display in the town earlier this month at a public exhibition organised by the developers Dransfield Properties Ltd.
More than 400 people attended the open consultation event at Royton Youth Centre to give their feedback and thoughts on the ambitious project which will create up to 300 new jobs in the town and bring new life to the district centre.
Members of the public were asked if they supported the proposals and also to give their views on a modern or traditional style of architecture, they were also asked to give their ideas and feedback about the plans.
The development team are now looking at all the comments and ideas which came through the open consultation to help shape the final planning application.
The new plans will deliver:
· A new town centre car park
· A new 50,000 sq ft foodstore with petrol filling station
· New and replacement shopping facilities
· An improved markets area
· New doctors surgery
· Improvements to the public realm and highway
The feedback from members of the public who visited the open public consultation and filled in a form shows that 86 per cent were in favour of the development plans, seven per cent were undecided and seven percent said that they were not in favour.
Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties Amanda Holmes said: “We had some fantastic feedback from the public and there is clearly a great deal of support for new investment and regeneration in the town.
“We are now carefully going through all the feedback we have received to look at changes and improvements that we can make to the development plans following the comments we’ve received.”
A planning application is expected to be submitted within the next six weeks.
