Morrisons to re-furbish Openshaw store
11 January 2018
Work is due to start this weekend on improvements to the Morrisons store at Lime Square which will deliver a more compact and better laid out store and create space for a brand new retail unit for The Range.
The existing Morrisons store, which opened in Openshaw in 2010, will close for eight days from Saturday 13th January at 8pm for builders to work on the refit project.
The extensive works taking place include a redesign of the store layout to make better use of the floor space whilst continuing to provide the products and useful services popular with Openshaw customers.
A dedicated free shopper shuttle bus will be available for customers taking them from the Openshaw store to the nearby Morrisons Reddish shop which they can use instead. The service will run on a continuous loop from 9am – 12 and 1pm – 4pm Monday to Saturday and 11am – 2.30pm and 3.15pm-5pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for Morrisons said: “Customers have told us that they want a simplified store. Our plans manage to do this and create the space for a new shop, which will give more reasons to visit. I look forward to welcoming colleagues and customers back when the store reopens on 22nd January.”
Space created in the improved store layout will provide The Range with 21,000 square foot from which to open its new store later in the year.
The Range is a Home, Leisure and Gardens retailer owned and run by Plymouth-based entrepreneur, Chris Dawson. He began life as a market stall trader across the South West of England before opening his first store in 1989 in his hometown of Plymouth, under the name of CDS (Chris Dawson Superstores) and has grown the company at an impressive rate since, now with over 145 stores across the UK and Ireland. The new store will bring around 20 new jobs to the local area which is expected to be a fantastic boost for the local economy.
Chris Dawson, the owner and founder of The Range commented on the new store: “Opening a new store is always an exciting moment for the company and Openshaw is no exception. Although a new concept of store for us, I am certain that we will be able to provide our customers with an equal offering to other new stores. I am looking forward to working with Morrisons to bring the local people a fantastic new choice of retailer.”
Lime Square is owned and managed by the Yorkshire based retail property specialists Dransfield Properties Ltd.
Estates Director at Dransfield Properties, James Shepherd, said: “We are delighted that Morrisons are working with The Range on this project which will see improvements to the store as well as bringing a new retailer to our line up here at Lime Square. This is a really positive more for the centre and we look forward to seeing the completed store and welcoming The Range to Lime Square later in the year.”
