Renovation for In Shops, Market Cross, Selby

23 June 2006

A major renovation of the In-Shops shopping hall in Market Cross, Selby, starts this week, following an agreement reached last week (Friday, 23 June) between leaseholder Geraud UK and owners Dransfield Properties to surrender the current lease.

Previously fitted out like an indoor market with a number of small retail units, the premises will be converted into a single retail store for one occupier.  The work is scheduled to be completed by October 2006, and a new tenant will be announced in the near future.

As part of the works, the entrance to the China Palace restaurant on the first floor will move from Market Lane to James Street.  The Hair Innovations salon on the first floor will not be affected.  Mrs Robinson’s Café will also be altered with a new frontage extension.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, said:  “I am delighted we have finally been able to agree a deal on the In Shops unit.  The shopping hall suffered from years of under investment and its run down appearance spoilt the rest of Market Cross.

“One by one, the In-Shops traders have moved out of the centre and we now have a great opportunity to create a large retail unit and provide the type of space which is in demand from national retailers.”

The refurbishment of the In Shops hall will build on the £500,000 refurbishment of Market Cross undertaken since Dransfield Properties purchased the centre with Ethel Austin Properties in 2005.  The centre has seen major improvements with new planting, seating and signage installed.  CCTV has been introduced and cleaning and maintenance is carried out regularly to a high standard.  An additional retail unit has been constructed within the centre which is now occupied and a host of new tenants attracted including East Meets West, Alexander Cards, Cartridge Point, and Gordon’s Jewellers.
