The Lounges to open Barco Lounge at Market Cross in Selby

A brand-new casual restaurant and bar at Selby’s Market Cross shopping centre is set to open later this year.

The popular brand Lounges will be opening the new Barco Lounge, creating around 25 new jobs for the area.

The company is currently transforming the former Virgin Money unit at Market Cross into a stunning, quirky and casual dining experience, bringing something completely different for visitors and shoppers.

The new arrival will strengthen the leisure and hospitality offering at Market Cross which is in the heart of Selby town centre - the shopping centre is already home to The Flying Pig on New Lane, Costa Coffee and independent café, The Hub.

Barco Lounge will feature a menu focussed on casual dining, from breakfast through to dinner as well as an exciting cocktail and drinks menu.

By acquiring car parking spaces from Selby District Council there will also be a new outside dining area created, which will be south facing and act as a key gateway to the centre. 

Founded in 2002 the company has Lounges and Cosy Clubs across the UK - the name Barco Lounge is Spanish for boat and has been chosen for the new Market Cross restaurant due to the area’s history in shipbuilding on the River Ouse.

Market Cross is owned and managed by Dransfield Properties, Estates Director James Shepherd said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Barco Lounge to Market Cross later this year. The cool and quirky concept that Lounges offer will bring something completely unique to the current offering.

“Since we have introduced a number of one- and two-bedroom apartments above the shops, we have seen a rise in demand for eating out and we are confident that Barco Lounge will provide a fantastic destination for families and friends to enjoy socialising”.
