Topping out ceremony marks progress on east Hull development

20 February 2015

A topping out ceremony has been held at east Hull's new £5 million retail scheme which is due to be completed this summer.

The steel frame has now been erected at the new development which is transforming a 1.8 acre site on the corner of Mount Pleasant and Holderness Road in east Hull.

And local councillors this week joined the development team and Hull east MP Karl Turner to welcome the new jobs and investment in the area and mark the milestone in the project with a special topping out ceremony.

The development is being brought forward by the Barnsley based retail property specialists Dransfield Properties Ltd. The main contractors Geo Houlton and Sons are on schedule to complete the main building work in June ready for internal fit out work to start.

Once completed the scheme will be anchored by a 25,000 sq. ft. B&M store with a garden centre, four further new retail units are also being built, including a Subway store.

Two empty shops fronting Holderness Road are being refurbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project. The scheme will create around 50 new jobs in the area.

As well as bringing an attractive new retail development to this part of Holderness Road the scheme includes a new district centre car park with around 90 parking spaces.

Further announcements are due to be made over the next few weeks about other companies joining the line up.

Development Surveyor for Dransfield Properties, Dave Hale, said: “It’s great to reach this point in the project when we can really see the development taking shape and we’re pleased that everything is on schedule to complete the main construction work in June.

"We’ve had a great deal of interest in the remaining space we have available to let and we’ll be looking forward to making more announcements as work progresses.”
