Vodafone buys former Phones4U store at Selby’s Market Cross
3 October 2014
Vodafone has confirmed that the company is taking the former Phones4U store at Selby’s Market Cross Shopping Centre.
The store is one of 140 outlets to be bought by the company after Phones4U went into administration last month with the closure of 720 shops.
The former Phones4U unit which covers 636 sq. ft. will now be re-branded as a Vodafone shop ready for opening towards the end of next week.
The decision to buy the Selby store secures the jobs of the four members of staff who work at the busy town centre shop which neighbours Home Bargains.
Market Cross is owned and managed by the Barnsley based retail development company Dransfield Properties Ltd.
Andrew Malley, Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties, said: “We are delighted that the store at Market Cross is one of the 140 chosen to be taken on and rebranded as a new Vodafone store. It’s great news for the centre and also for the staff who work at the store.
"The Vodafone team will be getting the store ready for re-opening as soon as possible and plan to be on site next week.”
Vodafone plans to invest £1 billion in 2014 in the networks and services relied upon by its more than 19 million UK customers.
The company’s UK’s 2014 capital investment programme is the largest in its history, with work already well underway to deliver Vodafone's commitment to provide indoor and outdoor coverage using 2G, 3G and 4G services to 98% of the UK population by 2015.
