Dransfield Properties invests in bakery business to accelerate growth

3 October 2022

Two years ago Dransfield Properties handpicked their artisan trader line-up for their ‘Borough Market’ style hall at Five Valleys, now the firm is taking it one step further to assist one of those businesses to branch out and expand into the wider Cotswolds area.

The Artisan Baker will this month open their bakery and coffee shop in Cheltenham’s Quadrangle development which overlooks Imperial Gardens, following financial support from their current landlord at Five Valleys in Stroud.

The South Yorkshire Property firm have already invested £28.75m into a previously tired area of Stroud town centre transforming the former Merrywalks shopping centre and providing a state-of-the-art medical centre and library facility for the community, which will be opening in November.

With the regeneration of this part of town, Dransfield Properties has assisted over 30 independent businesses to either expand or start-up in one of the most challenging retail climates the property firm has experienced in it’s 30 years of doing business.

A family-run business themselves, Dransfield Properties firmly believes in providing the local community in which they’re working in with stunning architecture and a good quality shopping offer, which is only made possible by working with talented independents as well as key national chains.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield DL, said: “Ori has built an amazing business up from a small industrial unit in Nailsworth to now serving the majority of people in Stroud who are looking for artisan baked goods. We have every confidence the team will experience huge success in Cheltenham as well as here in Stroud and we’re really happy to be able to support them in that expansion.”

The Artisan Baker himself, Ori Hellerstein, will be overseeing both outlets using his 10 years of experience to fine tune his popular award-winning and fully organic baked products, which will all be made at the Stroud hub leading to some unique training and employment opportunities for the town where it all started.

From Cheltenham himself, Ori thought it was the ideal location to expand his business and customers there will now join Stroud in being spoilt to Ori’s range of organic hand-made pastries, bread, cakes and other baked goods to take away as well as a wide selection of sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and even Charcuterie style meat and cheese boards to enjoy with a glass of wine.

The new coffee shop and bakery will open October 13th and there will be 60 seats in total for people to enjoy dining both in and outside of the new shop. The new shop is positioned within a stunning location in central Cheltenham – a 30-minute drive from Stroud, where the original Artisan Bakery will remain open at its Five Valleys headquarters.

The Artisan Baker will be open from 8am daily, making it one of the few Cheltenham independents to open its doors before the working day begins. People will be able to break open a warm, freshly baked croissant with a delicious cup of coffee whilst watching the world go by seven days a week. They also have plans later to extend their opening into the evenings.

Ori commented: “We’re thrilled to be opening a second outlet in Cheltenham, we are really pleased with the response in Stroud and feel with the larger space in Cheltenham we can expand our offering from bakery to coffee shop offering a slightly wider range of small plates, but with all the same delicious lines of baked goods that you will find with us in Stroud.

“We’re grateful for the confidence shown by Mark and Dransfield Properties, it’s not an easy time for businesses to take on an expansion in this industry but we do believe we bring something special to the High Street.

“We look forward to meeting our customers in Cheltenham very soon.”

Ori has a London Cordon Bleu training background where his passion for the culinary arts was cultivated back in 2016. Inspiring him to set up his business from an industrial unit working alone initially, he soon set to work delivering the tastiest, freshest produce to the local area always keeping the core values that ingredients should be fully organic and all products handmade.

The local community quickly got a taste for Ori’s creations and following a presence on Stroud’s Farmers’ Market, the baker and pastry chef felt it made total sense to have a unit within the Five Valleys indoor market where he set up almost one year ago.

With the backing from Dransfield Properties the business is now quickly accelerating and from already employing a team of 16 people at Stroud, Ori will now be taking on a further 9 people taking his total employment number up to 25 to help him run the two operations.
