Godt klaret – Team Dransfield charity cyclists arrive in Wonderful Copenhagen!

16 September 2016

A team of charity cyclists from the south Yorkshire property company Dransfield Properties Ltd has arrived in Copenhagen this afternoon after a tough five day ride from the German capital of Berlin.

It’s the latest leg of a charity bike ride push which has covered nine years, taken in nine different countries and followed a route around Europe which has so far clocked up around 3,500 miles.

This year’s challenge will see the rider’s fundraising since the first ride in 2007 break the £400,000 mark with more than £30,000 already being raised in the Berlin to Copenhagen ride.

The latest leg of the cycle ride covered 400 miles with the 13-strong team setting off from Berlin on Monday September 12th and finishing in the Danish Capital of Copenhagen at the iconic Amalienborg Square on Friday afternoon.

The annual ride was founded by brothers Mark and Paul Dransfield - their companies PDR Construction and Dransfield Properties field a team of riders every year.

This year the team have been joined by the pro-cyclist and World Championship Silver Medallist, Tony Gibb who also heads up the new Full Gas Bike store at Fox Valley in north Sheffield - the centre is owned and managed by Dransfield Properties. The south Yorkshire riders have been joined by team members from Lincolnshire, Hull, Merseyside and London.

When they complete their challenge in 2020 they’re hoping to have raised a total of £500,000 through their marathon fundraising efforts which by then will have spanned 13 years.

This year the riders have supported Bloodwise, Action Against Cancer and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) – as well as The Dransfield Foundation which supports smaller groups and charities aimed at children and young people.
Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We’ve covered a lot of miles this week and the last day was the toughest with some steep climbs and side winds before we got into Copenhagen but everyone is delighted to have completed this year’s challenge and to have arrived safely.

“The fundraising is still coming in and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported our riders so generously, it really does mean a great deal to all the riders and to the charities we’re supporting. “

"We are all looking forward to getting started and are very much focussed on raising as much money as possible for the charities we are supporting.”

This year’s riders are Mark Dransfield, Andrew Malley, Paul Dransfield, Dave Maughan, Jeff Thomas, Lee Newsham, Steve Wilson, Richard Marshall, Dean Draper, Tim Downing, Matt Elliott, Mark Yardley and Tony Gibb.  Support team John White, Paul Anderson, Tim Read.
