Local stakeholders and businesses have welcomed the completion of resurfacing works on King Street and King’s Parade, marking another positive step forward for Stroud town centre.
The improvements, carried out by Gloucestershire County Council with support from Stroud District Council and Stroud Town Council, have transformed one of the town’s busiest routes outside the Five Valleys Shopping Centre.
The new surface enhances the look of the area while improving accessibility and safety for residents, visitors and businesses alike.
Photographed together on the newly resurfaced street, local stakeholders gathered to celebrate the completion of the works and recognise the collaborative effort behind the improvements.
Stakeholders across the town - including Kardien Gerbrands of the Farmers Market, town and district councillors, and Tony Davey from the Chamber and Town Council - have been meeting regularly to discuss key improvements.
Mark Dransfield, Chairman of Dransfield Properties, which owns and manages Five Valleys, said: “It is refreshing to see projects coming together in the community where key stakeholders are all working collaboratively.
“Collectively this has drawn together works to the external paving and local public transport which residents and visitors to the town will benefit from. We are all working together to bring forward further town centre enhancement projects which will be announced shortly.”
The resurfacing replaces a previously worn and uneven area on King Street, helping to create a safer and more attractive environment for pedestrians.
Further enhancements in this part of the town are already planned, with new event columns set to be installed later this month by Stroud Town Council, continuing the improvements in the area.
Cllr Chloe Turner Leader of Stroud District Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see continued investment in Stroud town centre, and the completion of these improvements on King Street and King’s Parade is a clear example of partners working together to deliver real benefits for our community. A more accessible, attractive and safer environment supports our local businesses and makes the town an even more welcoming place for residents and visitors. We’re committed to building on this momentum and ensuring Stroud continues to thrive.”
The works also build on wider recent improvements to Stroud’s transport infrastructure, including upgrades to both the bus and railway stations.
Local stakeholders say these improvements reflect strong collaboration across the town and a shared commitment to making Stroud an even more welcoming and vibrant place to visit, shop and do business.
