Market Cross welcomes fresh improvements as part of £100,000 investment
3 July 2026
Market Cross is undergoing a series of exciting improvements as part of a £100,000 investment programme aimed at enhancing the centre for both tenants and visitors.
Marking the start of the changes, Elaine’s Cards and Gifts has relocated to the former Coopers unit opposite Costa Coffee. The new, larger unit provides additional space for the store’s popular balloon displays and personalised orders, helping the business better serve the Selby community.
The former Elaine’s Cards and Gifts unit is now occupied by Subway, with the fast-food franchise preparing to open imminently. The arrival of Subway will further strengthen the food and drink offer at Market Cross, giving visitors another convenient option when shopping at the centre.
Costa Coffee is set to receive a separate internal investment of £120,000 over the next year, including a full refit to upgrade the store’s interior and create a refreshed and modern space for customers to enjoy. The plans also include improvements to the store’s external offering, with proposals to extend the outdoor seating area.
The wider centre will also benefit from several upgrades designed to support tenants and improve the visitor experience, including a new exterior paint scheme for the kiosks linking the centre with Gowthorpe. The refreshed paintwork will bring a vibrant touch to the area, creating a brighter and more welcoming environment for shoppers and visitors alike.
Meanwhile, the units formerly occupied by Mr Quinn's and Dawson's are being prepared for new tenants. The former Mr Quinn's space on New Lane is being divided into two smaller retail units, creating more opportunities for local businesses to take space in the centre.
The investment at Market Cross complements wider regeneration plans across Selby town centre, which are set to support local businesses and enhance the town’s appeal for residents and visitors.
These wider investments include the £23m Station Gateway project, alongside improvements within the Abbey Quarter, including marketplace upgrades and enhancements to the public realm.
James Shepherd, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, the company that owns and manages Market Cross said: “We’re delighted to be introducing a series of improvements that will enhance the appeal not only of Market Cross but Selby as a whole.”
“These upgrades reflect our continued commitment to supporting the centre and ensuring it remains a vibrant and welcoming destination at the heart of Selby - we’re excited to play our part in the town’s continued growth and future success.”
