New Bus Station Launched at Sanderson Arcade - Morpeth

9 March 2009

Councillors, business leaders and comminity groups were on hand to see Morpeth's brand new bus station officially open.

The new interchange which also houses the offices of Castle Morpeth Disability Association and a Martins Newsagency is part of the £32 million town centre scheme in the town.

This completion of this first phase has paved the way for the main part of the retail development to get underway which will deliver a brand new M&S as well as other major High Street stores including Waterstones, Fat Face, New Look and Laura Ashley.

The new interchange was officially opened by the leader of Castle Morpeth Borough Council Cllr Peter Jackson.

And a scale model of the bus station made out of lemon cake was also cut to mark the occasion. Geoff Proudlock, Chairman of the Morpeth Initiative, then unveiled a plaque to celebrate the installation of the stunning piece of art known as the Morpeth Melange which is in pride of place at the new bus station.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of developers Morpeth II said: "It is great to be at this stage with the development. We are committed to delivering a high quality development in the town in keeping with the area which will attract people from across the region. We are very excited about the next phase, working on the Edwardian Arcade which is going to look stunning when its completed.”
