Openshaw Festival gets underway this weekend

East Manchester is preparing for the second annual Openshaw Festival this weekend – taking place at Lime Square, Sporting Edge and Delamere Park on Saturday and Sunday (17th and 18th September).

Bunting has gone up this week along Ashton Old Road and Fairfield Road in the run up to the Festival which will be hosted with a Key 103 Roadshow at Openshaw’s Lime Square shopping centre during the event on Saturday. 

The team at Lime Square are working with Manchester City Council and Sporting Edge along with other local businesses and stakeholders in east Manchester to deliver a packed programme of family fun across the weekend.

On Saturday the Key 103 Roadshow will be headed by presenter Darryl Morris after being officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr Carl Austin-Behan at 11am.

Events will run throughout the weekend with fairground rides, music and entertainment. There will also be a food and craft market and giant games area as well as the Key 103 Media Bus. Sporting Edge will host two days of activities including  roller skating sessions.

On Sunday there will be multi sports activities including a Fun Run and Health Walk in Delamere Park starting at 12pm.

Groups, businesses and organisations involved with this year’s Festival include: G.H Sheldons, Lime Square, Lidl, The Army Cadets, Greater Manchester Fire Service, Greater Manchester Police, The River Manchester, Our Openshaw, Age UK, Adactus Housing, 4CT Sporting Edge,  the Lifeline Project, Guide Dogs for the Blind, ORG, Tandy Leather and many other local groups and businesses.

Whats happening where at this year’s Openshaw Festival:
Saturday September 17th
Lime Square will host music and entertainment from Key 103 from 11am to 5pm. There will be Gym Group challenges, a Giant Games area, fairground rides, face-painting and a fantastic food and craft market as well as displays by the Police, Fire Service and the Army Cadets as well as other local groups and organisations.
Sporting Edge off Fairfield Road will host free sports activities throughout the day as well as a bouncy castle.
Sunday September 18th
11am-5pm - Lime Square will host a food and craft market as well as fairground rides.
11am – 5pm Sporting Edge off Fairfield Road will host free sports activities throughout the day.
12pm – 3pm Delamere Park will host a fun run, walk and pram push as well as sports activities in the park as well as music and bid box making activities.
