Sandersons back Stocksbridge dance school representing England at an international competition

Twenty-one children from as young as eight years old have been selected to represent England at the International Dance Federation World Championships.

Sandersons Department Stores, which is based at Fox Valley in Sheffield, is proudly supporting Lauren McCaslin School of Theatre Dance.

Pupils will be competing all week at the World Championships which take place in Pula, Croatia.

School principal, Lauren McCaslin, said: “It is an absolute honour to be able to represent our country in the IDF World Championships, the kids have worked so hard for this and we can't wait to watch them perform."

The team of 21 children will perform several different styles of dance in Croatia, including Jazz Funk, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Fit Kid.

The dance school has been operating for more than 20 years and welcomes boys and girls from across South Yorkshire.

Dance Teacher, Nicole Burgin, said: “We have raised just over £16,000 in total, the cost of the trip was around £1,000 per child so it’s incredible how much the community have got behind us.

'We are so grateful to Sandersons for sponsoring the Team England uniform and helping make it possible for the kids to go and compete in the IDF world championships.” 

Appearing on both BBC Radio Sheffield and Look North the dance school has been overwhelmed by local support.

The dance school have also worked tirelessly to raise funds for the trip by taking part in sponsored walks, bake sales and hosting a Christmas carol evening and Race Night. 

Managing Director, Louise Fearnehough, said: “It’s fantastic that this talented dance troupe get to live out their dream and compete on the world stage. We wish them all the luck in the world and we’re so proud to have been a part of it.”

The dance competition takes place 22-26 May.
