Wilkinson takes possession of new Hessle Road store
10 July 2007
Home and garden retailers Wilkinson were handed the keys to their brand new store on Hessle Road in Hull this week by developers Dransfield Properties.
The 24,000 sq ft store has been created as part of the £4 million extension to the award winning St Andrew’s Retail Park, which transformed a decaying block of Victorian properties and industrial units into a vibrant shopping centre when phase one opened in 2001. Its impact on the surrounding area was recognised in 2002, when it won the RICS Pro Yorkshire Award for Regeneration.
The new Wilkinson store will create up to 60 jobs and is due to open for trade in September after undergoing a £1 million fit out. Two smaller units have been created adjacent to the Wilkinson store, and these are now available to let from joint agents Garness Jones on 01482 564564 and Alec Cammish on 01482 679 997.
The extension of St Andrew’s Retail Park runs along Flinton Street, adjacent to the existing retail park. Previously occupied by vacant shops and industrial units, the extension provides a much improved frontage onto Hessle Road and links seamlessly into the first phase.
Dransfield Properties has invested over £25 million in the area over the past six years, re-establishing Hessle Road as a major shopping centre, recapturing trade and reversing the area’s decline.
Peter Taylor, Director of Construction at Dransfield Properties, said: “Wilkinson is an extremely popular retailer and will increase footfall substantially on St Andrew’s Retail Park. The boost to the area’s economy will be significant and I wish Wilkinson all the best with their latest outlet.”
Danny Stanton, Contracts Manager for Wilkinson, also said: “We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Dransfield Properties on this project. Work is progressing well with the new store and we are looking forward to opening to public in September.”
