10 year old Alex names east Manchester’s new retail development!

School boy Alex Parkinson is top of the class this week after helping to pick the name for Openshaw’s brand new retail development.

 Alex, aged 10, and his classmates at St Clements C of E Primary School in Openshaw were tasked with the job of finding a name for the retail development which is taking shape off Ashton Old Road close to their school.

 And the lucky winner Alex has been rewarded with shopping vouchers and a contribution to school funds for helping the developers Dransfield Properties come up with the name Lime Square.

 The pupils were given a guided tour of the development site where the first phase – to build an 80,000 sq ft Morrisons store – is taking shape. PDR Construction are working on the development and site manager Peter Booth said he was delighted to welcome the youngsters on to site.

 The year five pupils were then asked to help select a new logo for the development which will now be used on brochures and branding as the exciting new scheme is marketed to retailers across the country.

 As well as the new Morrisons store the scheme will house a further 76,550 sq ft of additional retail space and a new health and fitness centre. Up to 750 new jobs are being created.

 Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield said: “We are delighted with the response we’ve had from pupils and they were all really excited to be on site and see the progress that’s been made. They’ve all come up with some great ideas about which retailers they’d like to see in the next phase of the development and voted on the logo we’re going to be using.”

 Head teacher of St Clements Janet Fitzgerald said: “Alex is so proud of his achievements and it means a lot to our school to know that our pupils have been so directly involved in the development stages. “

 Alex is now planning to spend his vouchers on some Lego, to build his own version of the Openshaw development at home!

 The youngsters will be invited back to the site later in the year when the store is nearing completion.
