New plans to deliver Gainsborough's town centre hotel
New plans to deliver Gainsborough's town centre hotel
9 November 2015
The development team delivering a new town centre hotel on a key site in Gainsborough have re-submitted the plans this week to create an additional 16 rooms.
The plans for the new hotel on the former Sun Inn site in the town have been revised to include the extra rooms – making the brand new building slightly larger and catering for more visitors to the town.
West Lindsey District Council's Planning Committee unanimously approved the previous application for the £3 million development in August 2014 and the decision was upheld by DCLG later in the year.
Developers Dransfield Properties, who also delivered the award winning Marshall’s Yard in Gainsborough, are bringing forward the new town centre development and have now submitted the revised proposals for the site which is on the corner of Market Street and North Street.
The company is working with the architects Dixon Dawson to deliver an attractive Edwardian style hotel which is in keeping with the neighbouring buildings and housing a total of 67 bedrooms.
The plans for the redevelopment of the run down former Sun Inn site have been widely supported by the business community in Gainsborough. Once completed the development will bring 30 new jobs to the town as well as a much needed good quality hotel in Gainsborough.
The new plans will create an extra storey at the hotel, although the height will only increase by half a storey, making it 2.37 metres taller than the scheme which was unanimously approved last year.
The style of the attractive landmark building remains the same high standard of architecture and design – the building has been designed to a traditional Edwardian design with a natural stone plinth and arched windows.
Dave Hale, development Surveyor for Dransfield Properties, said: “Following discussions with Premier Inn we have been working with our architects on the new plans to increase the number of rooms at the hotel and we have now come forward with updated plans which have been submitted to the council.
“The development has been widely supported since we first put forward proposals for the site and we know from speaking to other companies in Gainsborough that the business community is very keen to see this development come forward.”
West Lindsey District Council’s Planning Committee are expected to consider the revised plans early in the New Year.
