18 June 2024

Lord Andrew Mawson was given a tour of Stroud’s Five Valleys Centre - praising the team behind the development for delivering a transformational town centre project.

Lord Mawson is well known for his work at the Bromley by Bow Centre in East London - the UK’s first Healthy Living Centre which houses integrated social enterprises based around health, education, art and small businesses.

He is an advocate of social prescribing and worked with the local community and the Dransfield Properties team in Stockbridge, north Sheffield on supporting community projects including the Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre.

The new Five Valleys Centre in Stroud has brought together a range of town centre facilities - including the health centre and library - alongside national and independent businesses and a thriving food market. The latest phase of work is delivering new town centre offices.

Chairman of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said:  “We were really delighted to welcome Lord Mawson to Five Valleys and outline what has been delivered here over the last six years, working with local stakeholders and partners.

“Bringing these vital public services and businesses together in a well-connected and thought through redevelopment is absolutely key to a successful town centre. “

Five Valleys is home to a new medical centre and library as well as a great line up of local businesses and national brands as well as new office space for local companies to establish and grow. The latest company to join the retail line up is Peacocks which opens this week.

Lord Mawson said: “This is what the future needs to look like, to think about the relationship between the library and the health centre and the retail entrepreneur, and how these things sit together – that’s called placemaking.”
